Stockton Market and Project teams, in conjunction with Stockton learning and Skills have designed a free 5 week market trader course, based on the successful ‘Pitch Up For Retail’ Course.
The scheme gets underway on 24th April with 15 new learners. The content has been tailored to suit the local partners and includes an introduction to market management and regulated, free start up pitches, free rent and some free work experience on markets for all who attend the course.
One reason behind the initiative to encourage young entrepreneurs is that when older traders retire they aren’t passing their pitches down to their families.
NABMA’s Chief Executive, Graham Wilson endorses the scheme. He said, ‘Stockton’s Markets are among the best in the country and the Council is to be congratulated on the work they are now doing to improve trader skills. Markets face many challenges in the modern retail environment and initiatives like this will help us be better equipped to deal with these challenges. Stockton is leading the way. I hope others will follow.’
