NABMA was delighted to support Simon Baynes MP, our past Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Markets Committee, who, today, submitted a 10 Minute Rule Bill in the Chamber at the House of Commons.
NABMA is pleased to note that the Bill was passed for a second reading with no opposition. The second reading will be 24 February.
NABMA has assisted with the preparation of a Briefing Paper and general information. NMTF have also supported the Bill.
As background, two Ten-Minute Rule Bills are presented in the Chamber each week: one on Tuesday and one after Question Time on Wednesday.
Ten-Minute Rule Bills are unlikely to become law, but are a way of drawing attention to an issue that requires a change in the law and speaking about it in the Chamber.
The Bill in the name of Simon Baynes MP is titled ‘Markets and Market Traders (Review of Support) Bill’ and worded ;
‘Bill to require the Secretary of State to undertake a review of the support available to markets and market traders and of the options for improving that support; and for connected purposes’.
Co-sponsors are

NABMA would like to place on record our grateful thanks to Simon Baynes MP and the co-sponsors for their support of the markets industry and raising the question of vital support that the industry needs if it is to play a full role in supporting the government in its policy agenda for high streets and local communities.
