SUMMARY:One Day Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:NABMA One Day Conference 2026 \nWhat’s Next for Markets: Supporting Change and Devolution \nThe government is advancing an ambitious new round of local government reorganisation\, a process that will replace two-tier local government – comprising county councils and district councils – with a new single tier of unitary authorities. The agenda will have a huge impact on NABMA members\, and NABMA as the voice of markets itself. Our Conference sets out to highlight potential risks and opportunities for local government as leaders embed these new authorities and transform local public services. \nEarly booking available below. \n\n NABMA Conference 5 Feb 2026First NameLast NameEmailLocal Authority and / or Market NameAre you a NABMA\, ATCM or NMTF Member? SUMMARY:NABMA Annual AGM & Conference 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Premier Markets Conference of the Year for Market Operators offering an opportunity to catch up\, learn and network about what is happening in the markets industry \nNABMA is delighted to return to Stratford-upon-Avon\, a most popular venue with our delegates\, for our AGM and Conference 2025. The theme of our Conference is ‘Markets Connecting Communities’. \nThe NABMA Markets First Campaign 2023/25 set priority areas that included examining the wider impact of markets. Our research and performance network reinforced the importance of the community aspect of markets\, and we are encouraged that this is being recognised by government. \nFirstly\, the importance of markets connecting communities has been endorsed by the House of Lords last year in their Report ‘High Streets: Life beyond retail?’ It concludes that markets can boost footfall on high streets and contribute to the unique character of towns and small cities across the country. In addition\, they not only contribute to local economies but can also act as catalysts for the high street brands of tomorrow. \nSecondly\, the fact that markets can play a lead role in connecting communities can be advocated as opportunities within the government publication of its prospectus\, Plan for Neighbourhoods 2025 with many aspirations that markets can help meet embracing busy high streets and local amenities. \nOur Conference will set out to explore how markets connect with communities that then relate to national policies\, strategies\, performance and investment\, and as drivers of change. \nCan you afford not to be part of the discussion at Stratford upon Avon as market professionals come together to learn\, network\, share experiences and look to the future of the industry that we are all proud to represent. \nThe 2025 conference returns to the Crowne Plaza in Stratford-Upon-Avon. \n\nFully booked – No rooms available | Full Conference – AGM and Conference\, lunches\, receptions\, welcome buffet\, Gala Awards Dinner\, and overnight accommodation Tuesday (incl breakfast) (£350 + VAT = £420)\nTuesday Conference only including lunch (£150 + VAT = £180)\nWednesday Conference only including lunch (£100 + VAT = £120)\nGala Dinner Ticket only (£75 + VAT = £90)\n\nBookings are now closed for this event.

SUMMARY:NABMA Annual AGM & Conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:The theme for the 2024 conference is ‘Markets of Today and Tomorrow’ as we return to the Doubletree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel and Spa; a most popular venue for our AGM and Conference This year we have mid-week dates of 25 – 26 September. \nNABMA is again delighted to announce and welcome Vitabri\, as our conference sponsor for a third year. Vitabri is renowned for its high-quality products\, designed and produced in France. \nTo recognise the support from NABMA members in committing further to membership we have held all member delegate fees as per 2023. We hope you will take advantage of this offer. \nLast year our Conference theme was markets at the crossroads. This year\, we will consider the various directions now being taken by markets as they continue to encounter the economic problems from within society generally\, and the performance of their high streets. We will also look at the financial difficulties being created from local and national government funding with markets as a discretionary service. \nSome markets have a vision and a plan; some are benefiting from being part of government support initiatives; but for others the future remains unclear. So\, appreciating these circumstances\, it is perhaps reasonable to have an opinion that we understand what markets in 2024 are now facing – but what is their future\, and that of the industry and NABMA itself to be? \nWill the many platitudes that markets receive from government and high street partners continue to be meaningless\, or will they be converted into some tangible reward? \nWill markets really be a part of the revival and regeneration of town and city centres and\, if so\, what will their role be? \nOur challenge with the NABMA national campaign\,  #MarketsFirst\, and as an industry\, is to continue to create the discussions\, drive change\, secure recognition and\, importantly safeguard a future for UK markets. Markets of today and their traders\, operators and national organisations have a huge collective responsibility to ensure that there are markets of the future. Our conference theme aims to facilitate that discussion. \nCan you afford not to be part of the discussion at Harrogate as market professionals come together to learn\, network\, share experiences and look at a new vision for the markets industry? \nBookings are now closed for this event.

SUMMARY:One Day Conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:NABMA Launches January Conference 2024 \nWe are delighted to announce the details for our ever popular New Year Conference to be held on Thursday 25 January 2024. \nThe theme of the conference is ‘Markets at the Crossroads’. We will also announce the Great British Market Awards 2024. \nConference Invitation Jan 2024\nDownload the PDF here \nAs a reminder\, our October conference highlighted the very different picture being experienced by many markets within their local communities. For some there is blue sky. Since the pandemic we have seen certain markets benefit as part of some £127 million of government support. \nThe government has recently announced it is investing £1.1 billion into 55 towns and establishing a new Towns Taskforce\, reporting directly to the Prime Minister. But for many towns and their markets then they are not receiving any of this help. So\, what is their future? \nThis varied position has led to the theme of ‘Markets at the Crossroads’ being the focus for our highly popular January one day conference that again returns to Birmingham. \nOnce again we are grateful to Blachere Illumination for their continuing sponsorship of this\, the first main markets event of a  New Year. \nAfter the success of recent events we are again returning to the very popular Burlington Hotel immediately adjacent to Birmingham New Street Station. \nPlease book early and we hope to see you in Birmingham. \n\n NABMA Conference 25 Jan 2024First NameLast NameEmailLocal Authority and / or Market NameAre you a NABMA\, ATCM or NMTF Member? SUMMARY:NABMA Annual AGM & Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:#MarketsFirst 2023 – Your Invitation \nNABMA are delighted to return to Harrogate\, a most popular venue for our AGM and Conference 2023 \nThe Conference is focused on our #MarketsFirst National Campaign. The campaign was promoted as a result of the NABMA Survey\, published in October 2022\, that highlighted that the market industry faces major challenges in the years ahead. It was the most important research undertaken on our industry since 2018. We are pleased the campaign is supported by NMTF. \nThese challenges arise from many factors including the pandemic\, the economic crisis and the general difficulties faced by town and city centres and the performance of their high streets. \nImportantly\, if markets are to remain as a real asset within the levelling up agenda\, then there many critical conversations to be had\, and much work to be done by the two national market organisations working with government\, operators\, and traders alike. \nThere are many challenges to face\, but also opportunities to set a new vision for markets. Within the industry we understand the considerable community contribution that markets offer as part of many national and local policy agendas. The industry recognises the many roles that they perform\, including acting as a footfall generator to assist the regeneration of town and city centres and\, most importantly\, as a valuable outlet for entrepreneurship and start-up businesses.  The agenda\, after the pandemic is now much greater with markets having a role to play in addressing climate change and levelling up. Our challenge with #MarketsFirst is create the discussions\, drive change\, secure recognition and\, a future for UK markets. \nWithin our membership there is much to share and discuss in terms of good practice\, opportunities and challenges. Our conference programme will address many of these issues and therefore Harrogate will be the place to be on 9/10 October. \nCan you afford not to be part of the discussion at Harrogate as market professionals come together to learn\, network\, share experiences and look at a new vision for the markets industry? \nMick Barker \nNABMA President \n  \nOur Conference Theme – #MarketsFirst \nThe Markets Industry is recognised by government as a top factor to help deliver vibrant high streets. \nMarkets are a focus for start-up business\, retail\, tourism\, hospitality\, and social inclusion. They are an important community asset. \nHowever\, coming out of the pandemic\, the NABMA Survey 2022 provided some worrying messages for the industry. NABMA launched in April 2023 a National Campaign to address the Survey headlines that revealed. \n–           Stall occupancy is down from 77% to 72% \n–           The number of traders is now less that 30\,000 \n–           Only 8% of traders are under 40 years of age \n–           84% of markets are operated or controlled by local authorities \n–           Only 40% of markets have an annual financial surplus \n–           Only 13% can record footfall \n  \n#MarketsFirst has five key priorities\, each with an aim and action plan. The Campaign will run for twelve months and is about providing regular updates\, sharing of best practice\, forums for discussion and publication of resources to assist markets and market trading. Our priorities are. \nPRIORITY 1. Attracting and retaining traders \nPRIORITY 2. Addressing the economic challenges of Markets \nPRIORITY 3. Demonstrating the wider value of Markets \nPRIORITY 4. Making the approach to Markets management more professional. \nPRIORITY 5. Improving relationship with traders \n  \nEach of the conference sessions will relate to the priorities and topical issues in the industry. \nA Welcome from our Conference Sponsor – Vitabri \nNABMA is delighted to announce and welcome Vitabri\, as our conference sponsor for a second year. Vitabri is renowned for its high-quality products\, designed and produced in France. \nVitabri Chief Executive Emmanuel Musner confirmed “ We again look forward to welcoming NABMA delegates to Harrogate and spending time together”. \n“Vitabri is an established brand in the worldwide market industry and we are excited about working in partnership with NABMA and its membership in the months ahead. As a company we share the same values as NABMA and look forward to bringing our premium outdoor equipment\, modern solutions and expertise to the UK market industry. Please contact us if you feel we can help you with questions around our products\, consultancy or bespoke designs”. \nOUR CONFERENCE HOTEL –  DOUBLETREE BY HILTON HARROGATE MAJESTIC HOTEL & SPA \nHarrogate is a NABMA favourite venue. It is a Victorian spa town and rural district that contains the medieval city of Ripon\, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and four charming but very different market towns; Boroughbridge\, Knaresborough\, Masham and Pateley Bridge. \nBuilt in 1889 our conference hotel has become a part of the DoubleTree by Hilton collection. The hotel is surrounded by acres of beautifully landscaped gardens that overlook the town. With 14 function rooms\, a fully equipped Spa and Health Club\, and parking the hotel is the perfect destination for both business and pleasure. A Victorian landmark\, the four-star hotel has 184 bedrooms and sits in the heart of the spa town of Harrogate. \nRipon Road \nHarrogate\, HG1 2HU\, United Kingdom \n  \nOUTLINE PROGRAMME – #MarketsFirst – CONFERENCE SESSIONS \nHeadline sessions at the Conference will be based around \n\nRetaining and Attracting Traders\nYouth Markets and Creating Sustainable Businesses\nCase Studies of Investment\, Redevelopment and Regeneration\nManaging Markets and the Challenges and Options\nNational Markets Survey and #MarketsFirst – Updates\nBusiness Rates and VAT – Updates\nLaunch of the NABMA Performance Network\nThe influence of markets in local communities\nCelebrating the markets and the people that are making a difference.\nGreat British Market Awards – a look at case studies from some of the headline entries.\n\nNABMA #MarketsFirst – NETWORKING AND SOCIAL EVENTS \nAs always\, the NABMA Conference will provide excellent opportunities to network with market professionals.  Throughout the Conference the Market Place Exhibition will be open to chat with our sponsors and suppliers. \nThe grand gala dinner on the Monday evening will feature the Market Industry Awards. \nThis is always a very special evening in the market industry year. SUMMARY:Let's Talk Basecamp
DESCRIPTION:NABMA Basecamp has proven to be one of the most popular and well used of NABMA services. \nAs NABMA members you set the topics and lead the discussions. Recent subjects have been varied from operational to policy matters. \nWe are conscious that not everyone\, particularly new NABMA members\, may understand Basecamp and how it works and\, importantly\, how you can regulate posts to your inbox. \nWe have therefore set up an open zoom session for Tuesday 1 August 2023 at 14.00 for an informal discussion of interested NABMA members. \nNABMA appointed Chris Cotton\, a very experienced market professional\, as our Basecamp moderator and we believe that the time is now right to reflect on how Basecamp is used\, who uses it and why\, and whether it needs a few tweaks. \nThe aim of the session is to talk with Chris Cotton and also Ian Holmes\, the NABMA Media and Technical Support Consultant looking at: \nAn introduction as to why Basecamp was set up?\nHow to use it and get maximum value?\nPost covid\, does it need to change\, if so why and how and what would you want from this important NABMA service?\nIf you would like to share in this one hour session then please register – https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUoduGuqzojGtJ80hTbXU1xLi7OLPBqrHIZ

SUMMARY:Markets and the Legal Framework
DESCRIPTION:Last year NABMA organised two very successful legal seminars that provided an update on various issues relating to market law. They were delivered by Graham Wilson\, NABMA’s Legal and Policy Consultant. \nFollowing expressions of interest as received a further seminar is now arranged for Tuesday 28 February from 10.00 to 12.30 \nThe  event will have a charge of £75 plus VAT per delegate. \nPlease book using the form at the bottom of this page. \nThis interactive event\, delivered by Zoom\, will be an opportunity for practical help to learn about\, and discuss this most interesting aspect of UK law. \nThe course tutor will again be Graham Wilson OBE\, the NABMA Legal and Policy Consultant and co author of the seventh edition of Pease\, Chitty and Cousins: Law of Markets and Fairs. \nThe seminar will cover the main legal framework of market law highlighting the history and the current provisions. There will be an opportunity to consider how case law and legislation impact on your local market situation. \nFrom examining what actually constitutes a market to establishing and operating a market the seminar will cover day to day management issues and relationships with traders and other stakeholders. \nWe will consider in particular how market powers have evolved and how they can be used in a practical way. We will also look at the relationship between Parish and District/Unitary Councils where they each share market powers. \nImportantly\, there will be time for you to raise your individual queries and get help in resolving issues that impact on the running of your market. \n\n Markets and the Legal Framework Feb 2023First NameLast NameEmailMarket / AuthorityIs your Market / Authority a NABMA Member? SUMMARY:NABMA Annual AGM & Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:The NABMA Annual Conference will be at DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa and the rescheduled details are now: \nYour invitation to NABMA 2022\, our Annual Conference and AGM which is being held from the 27th & 28th October 2022 at the Double Tree Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel and Spa. \nA most popular venue on the NABMA circuit of conference venues. \nNew dates for the AGM and Conference 2022 are now 27/28 October at the DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa \nWe are very grateful to the majority of the original delegates that have rebooked the October dates. \nAs a reminder\, we have managed to renegotiate a two day/one night Conference on 27/28 October. Going later in the year would result in clashes with Christmas events and also probably impact on our January event. In the financial interests of NABMA therefore we took this option despite recognising the huge logistical challenge of rearranging and delivering a conference in less than 6 weeks. \nAt the moment our reduced allocation of hotel rooms is full and we are still in negotiations with the hotel to try and secure additional rooms. We are however offering the below packages that give you flexibility to attend conference but make your own accommodation arrangements. \nPlease note that we have now reached the point were all our allocated hotel rooms have been taken. \nHowever\, we are still taking bookings for NABMA members only and are offering packages that are now exclusive of accommodation. This enables delegates to attend the conference and make their own arrangements for accommodation either in Harrogate itself\, or slightly further afield when rates may be cheaper. \nBookings are now live for this event. \nRevised Conference Packages \nPACKAGE A\nAs originally advertised is no longer available \nPACKAGE B\nThursday and Friday Conference\, lunches and Gala Dinner\n£225 plus VAT \nPACKAGE C\nThursday Conference only plus lunch\n£150 plus VAT \nPACKAGE D\nFriday Conference only plus lunch\n£100 plus VAT \nIf you wish to take advantage of these revised offers then we ask you to book early to be sure of your place(s). \nBookings are now closed for this event.

SUMMARY:NABMA/SLCC - Markets\, Local Councils and Supporting Communities
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the pandemic markets have provided essential services to their local communities. Many markets are now operated by local councils and more are considering delivering this important local service that can help regenerate high streets and town centres and provide start up business opportunities. \nMarkets can also be an important part of the levelling up agenda in terms of improving public services and helping to restore a sense of community and local pride. \nThis event will look at recent changes to legislation in terms of planning and the use of public realm. Importantly it will discuss how a local council can operate a market\, both in terms of legislation and a policy framework. It will also share good practice and case studies from successful markets. \nNABMA Members can book here

We hope that NABMA members will support this next free event. \nYours sincerely\nDavid Preston (BA Hons)\nChief Executive\nThe National Association of British Market Authorities
