Love Your Local Market will transform as Customers Return to our Markets

The Annual Love Your Local Market campaign was due to take place in the last two weeks of May 2020. The campaign, which celebrates markets across the UK with a range of events, promotions and initiatives, has been embraced by 24 countries across the world.

Now in its ninth year, NABMA is proud of the campaign which enjoyed a record year in 2019.

Although some markets have been able to continue to offer a great service to their local communities, it is clear that due to the coronavirus pandemic, we would not be able to make the most of the Love Your Local Market campaign this year.

NABMA is now working on a new campaign for 2020 which will be launched once it is clear that markets are able to re-open and welcome customers back to all markets. From the smallest farmers’ markets to the large market halls that are still at the heart of our towns and cities.

During the last few weeks, customers across the UK have been praising the work of their local markets who have either remained open or adapted to new online, telephone & delivery services with new innovative solutions. We hope that this will see a revived passion for markets in the future.

David Preston, Chief Executive of NABMA, said:

“It’s an incredibly challenging time for markets and traders, many of whom do not qualify for the business support schemes that the government has put in place and we are continuing to lobby for specific support for the market industry.

“This new campaign, will enable us to join with markets & traders across the UK, to celebrate the full return of all markets and to welcome back customers, old and new, with a renewed sense of how important markets are for our local communities.”

“NABMA are urging customers to support traders who are still providing food and essential supplies at the moment and hope that the public’s evident affection for their markets continues when we are able to welcome everyone back.”

Full details of the campaign will be announced soon.

We welcome news stories, job vacancies and tender opportunities from our members for publication. If your market has some news to share, please email support@nabma.com
