South Shields Market

South Shields has a long and proud tradition of market trading spanning more than 250 years. The town currently has two market days each week running from the Market Place around the Old Town Hall.

The traditional market runs on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm selling everything from collectable DVDs, handmade cakes, homemade bath bombs, luxury bows, band merchandise and much, much more.

On Fridays, the flea market opens from 9am to 3pm and is a treasure trove of unusual and quirky knick-knacks, bric-a-brac, books and second-hand bargains. There are also stalls selling brand new items at the Friday market.

Throughout the Love Your Local Market campaign, we’ll be shining a light on South Shields Market, sharing the history of the market, promoting our fantastic traders and their stalls, sharing details on how to become a market trader and keeping you up to date on events happening at the market.

Supporting all our town centres, villages, high streets and hospitality is one of South Tyneside Council’s community priorities. Shopping at your local market is a great way to support local businesses.
