All Party Parliamentary Local Markets Group
The All-Party Parliamentary Local Markets Group met at Westminster on Tuesday 23rd June 2026 to consider how markets can play an even greater role in supporting thriving high streets, town centre regeneration and community wellbeing.
The meeting explored a number of strategic issues, including the impact of weather forecasting on outdoor markets and visitor attractions, and received a major presentation from NABMA on the role of markets as placemaking assets within regeneration programmes across the UK. Members also discussed opportunities to embed markets within the Government’s emerging High Street Strategy and wider Pride in Place ambitions.
The Group agreed a programme of work that includes a visit to Barnsley Market as part of a wider APPMG enquiry into market-led regeneration. It also resolved to engage with Government departments to ensure markets are recognised as key contributors to economic growth, public health, community resilience and the future of Britain’s high streets.
