The representatives of ten European countries came together in Paris to plan the 2017 LYLM campaign. It is hoped that around 3000 markets worldwide will take part with Europe providing the vast majority. The theme this year will be young people with an emphasis on both attracting new traders and new customers. NABMA Subscriptions 2017/18
We have yet to make a decision on the level of subscriptions for 2017/18 but we are hoping that any increase will be kept as small as possible bearing in mind we have made no increase for the last fourteen years.
In recent years a number of members, having funds in the current year budget, have paid the following year’s subscriptions from this budget. If you would like to take advantage of this arrangement please advise us as soon as possible so that we can issue the relevant invoice. Contact Roger Dyke at NABMA on r.dyke@oswestry-tc.gov.uk
Any member requesting this facility will pay the subscription rate at the existing rates. This opportunity will be open to members until the end of February.

Great British Market Awards Deadline Extended
We are delighted at the entries already received, and promised for the Great British Market Awards 2017. However to enable some last minute entries that have been held up due to Christmas post and Council shutdowns over Christmas and New Year we have decided to extend the closing date for entries to 12 January. We hope that this extension may help you submit an entry.
It can be done very simply and quickly at http://www.nabma.com/great-british-market-awards/
Remember that the national and local publicity from winning one of the many awards can be significant for your market, local tourism and your local community.
The awards will be presented by Andrew Percy MP, Minister for High Streets at the Birmingham Conference on 26 January.
Happy New Year!
Wishing our President, Board Members, Sponsors, Members & all the market industry a Happy New Year. We hope you all have a healthy & prosperous 2017. Thank you for all your support in 2016. “A Yuletide Market Can Be Good For Prices”
Did you see the article in the Bricks and Mortar Section of the Times on the 2nd December where Carol Lewis is arguing that the presence of a Christmas Market can be good for property prices? Carol states that “It turns out that the sociable places that hold the best of these festive fairs also have a lively housing market.”
Research by Knight Frank shows ” locations with thriving Yuletide celebrations go hand in hand with a prosperous property market”. The research goes on to conclude that ” Markets definitely show that a community is strong”.
Of course like all research it is necessary to look at the detail but it is a boost for Markets to have this kind of support.
Voting for Britain’s Favourite Market is Open!
Voting starts today (1st December) to find Britain’s Favourite Market. Make sure you vote online for your favourite market at http://www.nabma.com/britainsfavouritemarket/
