Over past months NABMA has been urging colleagues to book early for the conference. Due to the uncertainty over the impact of the pandemic we had a reduced number of rooms this year due to the financial risk and the terms of our contract that was signed back in 2019. Despite a very slow start and weekly reminders to our membership, we have now reached the point where all our allocated hotel rooms have been taken. However, we are still taking bookings for NABMA members only and are offering packages that are now exclusive of accommodation. This enables delegates to attend the conference and make their own arrangements for accommodation, either in Harrogate itself, or slightly further afield when rates may be cheaper. Revised Conference Packages https://nabma.com/event/nabma-annual-agm-conference-2022/ PACKAGE AFull Conference – AGM and Conference, lunches, receptions, welcome buffet and Gala Awards Dinner (exclusive of accommodation)£275 plus VAT PACKAGE BMonday and Tuesday Conference, lunches and Gala Dinner£225 plus VAT PACKAGE CMonday Conference only plus lunch£150 plus VAT PACKAGE DTuesday Conference only plus lunch£100 plus VAT If you wish to take advantage of this new offer then once again we ask you to book early to be sure of your place(s). ✅ National Retail Markets Survey – Can We Reach 250?
We are continuing to make an urgent appeal for NABMA members to complete the NATIONAL RETAIL MARKETS SURVEY using the link below: https://nabma.com/retail-markets-survey-2021-22/ Returns have now reached 234 and the response to this important piece of work is still disappointing despite a team of colleagues ringing around to encourage members to complete the Survey. We want to reach a minimum of 250 returns so please take 15 minutes out of your day and help us. We have extended the final deadline to 31 August so please help as the 2022 Survey is probably our most important given the events of the recent pandemic. We stress that if we are to lobby government for funding and support for our industry then we need to have statistical evidence. Never has this been more important than in 2022 with government agendas focussed on communities, employment and the high street. Initially, the full results of the Survey will, of course, only be circulated to those members that have contributed information. At this time NABMA sincerely thanks Colin Wolstenholme, Graham Wilson. Chris New and the team of volunteers that have worked so hard to reach out to the membership to complete the Survey. Their efforts have been for the benefit of your market and local high street. Yours sincerelyDavid Preston (BA Hons)Chief Executive
📢 Artists/Makers Studios – Barnsley
Hello, We’re converting two stalls in our indoor market into artists / makers studios. Has anyone else successfully done this? Would you be willing to discuss your letting arrangement and pricing strategy? Also, comments welcome on pitfalls to avoid!Thank you,Chris chrissavage@barnsley.gov.uk
💡 Question from Oxford City Council
Dear NAMBA members, Oxford City Council are beginning a process to review our market and street trading policies with a view to offering very a clear policy environment with robust procedures which encourage and support new market operators and new community led initiatives. This is a long term process that will take time to realise but will bring us in line with our emerging Inclusive Economy goals and Thriving Communities Strategy. In the meantime we’re already receiving requests from community groups who want to establish small scale, locally-managed markets, either on private land or on the street. Our current position would require us to treat individual stallholders as independent street traders with independent licensing requirements, so we’d like to find a way formally recognise them as markets to relieve them of this cost hurdle. We’d welcome any examples or advice on the above and would be happy to provide further detail where helpful.
