✅ England Women’s Football Team hit their goal – but the National Markets Survey isn’t quite there yet
Dear Colleague Fabulous to see the England lasses win against Germany – and what a result! But we in NABMA aren’t quite there yet with the returns from our 2022 National Markets Survey not all yet in. Many thanks to markets and allied officers who have completed their returns. We now have some 220 in – but our target is 250 if we are to create a report with adequate statistical analysis that can be discussed with Government to press the case for markets’ funding and support. So if you haven’t completed the survey (colleagues have found it only takes around 10 minutes per market if you have the data handy!) https://nabma.com/retail-markets-survey-2021-22/ If you don’t have all the data requested, just complete it with the data you do have – that will be most helpful – and if we do hit our goal of 250 there’ll be someone from the team here to take their shirt off and swing it around.. Help us to help you. Let’s hit that target together! Yours sincerelyDavid Preston (BA Hons)Chief Executive

✅ Basecamp Moderator
One of the most used NABMA services is Basecamp which now has over 300 market professionals accessing the app on a regular basis. It is well used to share information, ask questions and promote discussions on a wide range of subjects. During the pandemic it was regarded as the essential tool to enable NABMA members to communicate, share up to date information and support well being. NABMA would now like to enhance this member benefit by appointing a Basecamp Moderator to add to our Consultancy Team. Our aim is to have an experienced market person monitoring the various posts and wherever possible ensuring that questions as asked receive some response. It is envisaged that the person to be appointed will have extensive experience working within the market industry and a knowledge of the work and role of NABMA. Having an understanding of IT and social media platforms are also important. The Moderator will work closely with the NABMA Media Team and the Member Services Consultant. This is a part time position that will involve just a few hours each month and a payment will be made available. If you are interested in this role then in the first instance please email me with a brief summary of your markets experience. Yours sincerelyDavid Preston (BA Hons)Chief ExecutiveThe National Association of British Market Authorities
✅ Nabma Honorary Life Membership 2022

If so please email davidpreston@nabma.com by no later than 12 August. Yours sincerelyDavid Preston (BA Hons)Chief ExecutiveThe National Association of British Market Authorities
✅ National Retail Markets Survey – We Still Need Your Help
We are continuing to make an urgent appeal for NABMA members to complete the NATIONAL RETAIL MARKETS SURVEY using the link below: https://nabma.com/retail-markets-survey-2021-22/ Although returns have just crept past the 200 mark the response to this important piece of work is hugely disappointing. We have had a team of colleagues ringing around to encourage members to complete the Survey and they are feeding back to us the apathy that they are experiencing from many operators. Next week we will publish the list of members that have completed the Survey. We are still looking for at least another 50 responses so please take 15 minutes out of your day and help us. As a reminder, the National Market Survey enables NABMA to assess the state of the markets industry. The 2022 Survey is probably our most important Survey given the events of the recent pandemic. Normally we hope to get returns from over 250 Markets to make the Survey meaningful and make regional comparisons. We stress that if we are to lobby government for funding and support for our industry then we need to have statistical evidence. Never has this been more important than in 2022 with government agendas focussed on communities, employment and the high street. Again, we ask you to help us. The Survey takes around 15 minutes and if need be, just answer the questions where your information is to hand. To help you we have extended the deadline for returns to Friday 19 August. Please make this task a priority in your diary. Yours sincerely David Preston (BA Hons)Chief ExecutiveThe National Association of British Market Authorities

Market Managers Job Description
I have been tasked with writing my own job description as I am looking at reducing my hours but need to attract an individual to work the other hours. I wonder if you would be able to share any job descriptions you have which I could grib. I am the markets and town centre officer so the role is quite diverse i.e. directly manager the indoor market including day to day running, manage 2 casual relief staff, recommending and running events, market improvements and strategic development. Support two other markets which are run by trader associations. Town Centres – manage town centre promotional activities including the organisation of the local charter fair and street trading activitiesAny help would be appreciatedThank youVicki
Chiswick : New market operators and market strategy for our town centre
Chiswick Flower Market was set up in late 2020 as a way to revitalise our town centre by our group of local residents. We now get around 10k visitors on the first Sunday of every month. A commercial antiques market operator and a local specialist Cheese market have now come into to operate on the second and third Sundays. So markets have had an amazing impact here with footfall locally normally doubling! We have also tried a small extension to our flower market with Vegan Markets coming last month with 20 stalls to add to our existing 30+ stalls. I am keen to see if there are other market operators or similar groups who would be interested in running markets in our West London location – either as an annex to our flower market or to come on other Sundays – or sharing ideas. The Council are also looking at the strategy for markets for Chiswick and they are in early discussions with us – looking a ways in which the markets can be promoted well and also to look at improving the infrastructure. Would be keen to hear from people if there is best practice or ideas! ThanksOllie
✅ Pavement Licensing
Many members will already have seen the government announcement a few days ago extending temporary pavement licences until 30th September 2023 at the current fee of £100. This decision has been taken because the provisions in the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill are unlikely to be enacted before 2023 at the earliest. NABMA continues to express the concern, particularly from our London members, about the impact of the proposed legislation on street trading activities. Yours sincerelyDavid Preston Chief Executive
