👍 Waste Collection Provisions

Hi everyone,I’m currently looking at the provisions for the collection of waste on our markets. I’m keen to get an understanding on what other Council’s do.- Do you collect food waste separately on the market? How is this done? – Do you collect recycling on the market? How is this done? – Other than having a truck collect straight from the market, what infrastructure do you have to collect the waste? If you can email me on luke.ellis@lewisham.gov.uk with any feedback, it would be greatly appreciated!Thank you,Luke

Is Market Supervision always necessary?

With an ever expanding list of event markets and limited staffing resources, I wondered if any market colleagues on this forum have experimented with unsupervised market days, in part or in whole. For example, some of our quieter market days see just a few regular traders who need little help or assistance outside of allowing their vehicles on to the bollarded area to set-up and securing the area once they have departed. Conversely, our ever-increasing sell-out days would require more staff resources to make them function efficiently.I’m sure I saw recently a market where the infrastructure was designed to self-serve the traders. Can anyone highlight good practice regarding market supervision?

Market Investment

With Future High Street, Towns Funds, Heritage Action Zones and Levelling up there is an immense amount of grant funding about which is distributed by the Government.I am curious to discover how many markets are benefiting from these streams of investment into our local areas?

NHS Healthy Start Pre-Paid Card

Afternoon everyone!Have any markets been promoting or seen the use of the ‘Healthy Start’ pre-paid card which is available for people on certain benefits? The NHS website lists you can use them for the purchase of plain milk and ‘Fresh, frozen and tinned Fruit & Veg’ amongst other things and ‘Markets’ are specifically listed as a place where the cards can be used as long as a trader can take Mastercard Payments. I wasn’t aware of it until a trader of mine was asked about it via Facebook and wondered if any one else was regularly seeing these be used?https://www.healthystart.nhs.uk/frequently-asked-questions/the-new-healthy-start-scheme/Thanks,Jon WilmotStockton-on-Tees Markets
